Bassil meets Belgian counterpart, suggests chairing ministerial conference on persecution of minorities
NNA – Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister, Gebran Bassil, kicked off his visit to the Belgian capital of Brussels, by meeting with his counterpart, Didier Reynders, in the presence of Minister of Trade and Economy, Raed Khoury, and other senior officials.
Minister Bassil handed Reynders a formal letter proposing that Belgium and Lebanon chair the forthcoming ministerial conference in Brussels to discuss the persecution of minorities in the region.
Bassil`s request comes after meetings in New York, Madrid, and Paris, in which Lebanon played a pivotal role joining the international community in the fight against terrorism through its speech, which advocated pluralism, openness, tolerance, humanity, and values.
The army`s fight against terrorist organizations, and the legal steps taken by Lebanon to prosecute those responsible for war crimes also featured high on talks between Bassil and his Belgian counterpart.
